CDSS – CDMIS History and Updates

Implementation Overview

History of the creation and implementation of CDSS – CDMIS.

The Early Childhood Development Act of 2020 (Senate Bill (SB) 98, Chapter 24, Statutes of 2020) authorized the transfer of many childcare programs from the California Department of Education (CDE) to the California Department of Social Services (CDSS), effective July 1, 2021. CDE continues to operate the California State Preschool Program. Since the transition, CDSS and CDE have collaborated so that all contracted agencies continue reporting in the Child Development Management Information System (CDMIS) that is housed within the CDE, until the development of a CDSS – specific version of CDMIS.

The CDSS version of CDMIS will be referred to as CDSS – CDMIS and will be used by CDSS contracted agencies. This page will consistently update all system and reporting changes pertinent to use of CDSS – CDMIS by CDSS contracted agencies.

Effective November 2024, agencies will utilize CDSS – CDMIS to submit the CDD-801A and CDD-801B reports. Additionally, agencies partnering with Family Child Care Homes have the option to upload their Subsidized Provider Report (SPR) through CDSS – CDMIS. The CDSS – CDMIS aligns with our commitment to maintaining data integrity and resource continuity throughout this transition.
